After two and a half years of fishing with BlueSteel we have caught almost every fish targeted except the long coveted Wahoo. Today was supposed to be the day Doug and I put an end to that however after 45 miles of trolling, we are still hooless. Our time will come soon enough. As a decent consolation prize, Doug landed a 12lb Blackfin Tuna on a live sardine in 300' of water.

The last trip of the weekend did not produce nearly as much action. We all needed some rest so we hit the inlet an hour later. We caught a lot of good sized bait but that did not translate into more fish. It took a couple of hours to get the skunk off our backs with Kim landing a bonito and a grouper. The only fish of the day. In our defense the water was almost too flat with no current or movement. When the current did pick up we had to run all over the ocean to dodge storms and couldnt keep our lines in the water. Still a great trip as anytime you are on the water, its better than being anywhere else. Paul did not make this trip and that may have been why we did not catch much. He has the fishing gods on his side for sure. Kim ends up with the MVF award, Luke the LVF, LJ the best mate, and Paul is the Clover! Great time with family and got to catch some fish as a bonus. Thankful for the weather and the time we got to spend together. As they say....catching memories!

Adventure number two began with catching live bait and then heading to the old stomping grounds of where Paul caught his Sailfish about a year ago. No luck with Sails this time but the lines were a screaming quickly as less than 15 minutes into the trip everyone had caught at least one fish and Kimberly began to stake her claim on the Most Valuable Fisher Award. The snapper and grouper were biting everything in about 70' of water. I then made the decision to go for the big fish so we moved north of the inlet in 150' of water and then Kim caught the smoker King that tipped the scales at around 27lbs and barely fit in the cooler after bending and twisting. It was at this time LVF was born. Luke for whatever reason had some trouble getting the grippers on the King and created a murder scene instantly when the beast began to shake and spray blood. After that the action began to slow as the current and tide went slack and clouds started to move in from the west. We tried trolling for a bit but did not have any luck other than a bonito that Luke managed to get in. Another great day on the water with excellent conditions until mid morning.

The Varadi's made their annual trip to Palm Beach and the weekend fishing did not disappoint, nor did mother nature for the first time in July. We hit the inlet around 715 and started catching bait on the south side of the pier. The "northerners" were sabiki rookies but they quickly honed in their skills and filled the live well with bait. Pilchards, greenies and sardines were the most abundant. Shortly into our first adventure Luke and Kim landed two kings while LJ and Paul were fighting bonitos and groupers. Most of the fish hit frozen sardines with only one bonito hitting livies. We generally fished in 100'+ however most of the action seemed to be out past 150' with as LJ puts it "sea world blue water" ruling all the way to shore. Paul also stepped up his game on peanut island and landed this alien looking cowfish from the pier.

Doug and I went out despite the rain and tried to catch live bait before hitting the seas. We went to Munyon Island with no luck but did see a lot of star fish. We then hit up the south side of the jetty and found the jackpot of blue runners and grunts. It would have been nice if the captain didn't forget the kite but nonetheless we did manage a few rainbow runners for sashimi and a barracuda. The seas were very sloppy with a large swell but calmed down when the sun finally came out. There was not as much action as the previous day but still found the fish. We tried fishing for sharks in shallow because while getting live bait we saw a couple in 30' or less. No luck with the live bait however. Maybe the dead sardines are the way to go?

After a two week break, we got back out with sloppy seas and rain showers but gentle winds to start off the fourth of July weekend celebration. The rain the night before really made the seas greener than normal inshore but were blue about a mile out. I had been hearing there was not much action other than snapper and that was definitely what was biting. Between the three of us we had 12 fish or so with only a barracuda straying from the snapper species. Twinkle Toes Chris managed to stay on his feet and not break anything this time so we will consider it a successful trip.

I put this video together of everyone who has been on a fishing trip with me. These are a lot of memories that people will probably will never forget. What are the chances that two weekends in a row we get the anglers on BlueSteel a fish that they requested? Apparently pretty good. Bryan, Doug and I got out early for part 1 of his bachelor party and got things started right of the bat with a quadruple header of bonito and a mutton. 4 fish on and 3 people made for a great start but that was not the target for today. Sailfish was on everyone's mind and as we were cruising back to set up a new drift to get out of the bonies, It was an all in approach with a storm forming and us trying to get Bryan a Sailfish on his day!! Luckily, Doug saw a free jumping sail in 200' so we sped over there and within 5 minutes, Sail on!!! Bryan battled him for about 50 minutes on a spinning rod rigged with 20lb test, 40lb leader with 4/0 circle (yes light tackle for a Sail but fun). As the fight wore on, a storm was brewing in the Southern sky that just barely held on for us to get back into the inlet safely with some great pictures of Bryan's first Sailfish. Due to the storm Bryan had to be thrown in at Peanut Island!

Yesterday was going to be a tough act to follow regardless of what we caught today but we managed to have a quadruple header of bonito which is always fun and mass chaos! Luke and Kim both landed a couple of nice sized Yellowtail Snappers which we just threw back since we had 15lbs of mahi in the fridge already. Conditions were not as pleasant today with the north wind going against the current. All in all it was a great couple of days fishing. We even got Aunt Carol on the boat. Maybe next time we can get her out on the ocean?!

In celebration of Kim's 16th Birthday, her, Luke and I went out bright and early with calm seas waiting for us. Kim said all she wanted was a Sailfish or a Dolphin. Well we were able to get one of the two with BlueSteel's biggest Dolphin yet! We were in about 150' of water when this monster swam up to the boat while Luke was fighting a 20lb Bonito. The Mahi measured in at around 25lbs and was about 45 inches long and had no problem feeding the entire family for Kim's Birthday dinner! We also had a bunch of bonito as always. If the Varadi's keep coming this Summer we may have some record fish! Every time they visit me we catch something amazing!

Bad day! Got a late start with Courtney for her first trip out and then had steering problems that delayed us even further. Then we only caught one remora after 5 or so bite offs. After the weekend before of slaying Dolphin i guess that is the fishing gods way of bringing me back down to earth!!Still a beautiful day on the water but extremely hot!

Chris, his brother Todd, Doug and I cleared the inlet around 730 to find extremely calm seas, warm temperatures, great water clarity and lots of Bonito. Chris followed up his dolphin day with a nice 20lb amberjack. It was almost too flat to fish but we did manage some bonito to keep things interesting. Chris and his wonderful balancing skills led to a crack in the windshield but no one was hurt and all the rods are OK so no big deal! Plus we got the fish in!
