Carrie and I headed out just happy to be out and was just hoping to catch a few fish. We didn't hit the water until 8am since Carrie had a little bit of a headache. The wind was howling out of the west but we were able to get offshore enough to land Carrie's first Sail. The Sail hit within the first 10 minutes of having a line in. After a 30 minute battle the fish was in for our first boated sail in almost 2 years! It was great to get the monkey off our back. It took a dead sardine on a big old sinker that was meant to get a Snapper. Since it was a windy day and the current was ripping the bait was likely in the middle portion of the water column anyhow. We only had 4/0 circle hook on 40lb test. Not the typical Sailfish catch but we will take it! We were fishing just north of Breakers in 75' of water. Fish hit in 90' or so around 830am. After this we landed a Kingfish in about the same location. While fighting the Sail we had another one jump right in front of us. Probably could have hooked him too but we were focused on getting one in since it was her first! Water was very clear, temps were very warm (97 for a high). All the times we go out at 6am, buy live bait, do everything you are supposed to do, we end up catching on in an unconventional way. I guess that's why its called fishing... I played hooky from work today to take Carrie and her mom fishing. Within 30 minutes of being on the water we had all of the dolphin we could handle! We probably caught about 30 of them before heading in to do some snorkeling. Just happened to find some nice debris and weeds. After snorkeling we did some bottom fishing and we caught a nice Mutton Snapper on a live ballyhoo.
